Chapter 2: Verses 115-126

Chapter 2: An interwoven explanation of the causes and effects of higher rebirth and highest good. Part of a series of talks on Nagarjuna's Precious Garland of Advice for a King.

  • More on the topic of why the Buddha didn’t answer certain questions about is there and end or no end to the world and self
  • The Dharma on the highest good, the teaching on emptiness, is very difficult for people who are unsuitable vessels
  • When emptiness is taught to those who are inappropriate vessels they will develop nihilistic views or misunderstand it and teach it to others thinking they understand it
  • We need to exert ourselves to create the causes for an uninterrupted series of upper rebirths to practice the Dharma and realize emptiness to become awakened
  • We create the causes for upper rebirth when we undertake actions with a Dharma motivation in the beginning, middle, and end
