Training in techniques to subdue anger

14 Working with Anger

Part of a series of talks based on Working with Anger given at Sravasti Abbey’s monthly Sharing the Dharma Day starting in April, 2025. Written by Venerable Thubten Chodron the book presents a variety of Buddhist methods for subduing anger, not by changing what is happening, but by working with our minds to frame situations differently.

  • Guided analytical meditation on subduing anger through changing perspective
  • When we’re angry we are projecting and exaggerating
  • Seeing the situation from another’s viewpoint is effective in subduing anger
  • Ask ourselves whether the other person is happy
  • How can we help someone who is angry at us?
  • When we discuss disagreements active listening is helpful

An audio recording of the guided meditation is also available.
