From a card to Venerable Thubten Chodron, November 2009

Well the day has finally arrived! Tuesday morning, they will release me on parole. Most of the time it still seems unreal to me that I am actually going home. I am a little nervous, to say the least. While I am nervous, I am also upbeat. I am hopeful about a new life and sure of myself. I know that I can make it out there. There is a normal, happy, and peaceful life for me outside of these walls. I owe so much of my confidence and awareness to you. I can never thank you enough.

Venerable Thubten Chodron: After being incarcerated for about 15 years B. T. completed all the pre-release programs and requirements and was about to be released. He and I had been corresponding for 10 years, and he had dealt with many challenging situations in prison as well as with his family. We all wish him a welcome home and the fulfillment of all his virtuous aspirations!

Incarcerated people

Many incarcerated people from all over the United States correspond with Venerable Thubten Chodron and monastics from Sravasti Abbey. They offer great insights into how they are applying the Dharma and striving to be of benefit to themselves and others in even the most difficult of situations.
