Day-to-day Interdependence

Interdependence — that all persons and things depend on other things — is a strong theme throughout Buddhist teachings. Read an interview with Venerable Chodron on this topic in Spiral, a multimedia publication providing perspectives at the intersection of art, science, and Himalayan cultures.

Think about it—do you feel like you exist simply because the causes for you exist? No, it feels like there is an “I” that exists independently.”
Yet the more we understand dependence, the more we understand that everything, including “I,” is empty of independent or inherent existence.”
We are interdependent. The more we can understand this, the more we will happily work for the welfare of all and live in a happier society.”
