Good Karma
A 3-day course with Venerable Thubten Chodron

May 26, 3 pm to May 29, 2 pm Pacific Time

Why do things happen the way they do?
How do we create the causes for a happy life?

Venerable Thubten Chodron continues a series of teachings over Memorial Day weekend based on her book, Good Karma: How to Create the Causes of Happiness and Avoid the Causes of Suffering, a commentary on “The Wheel of Sharp Weapons” by Indian sage Dharmarakshita.

With practical advice and plenty of humor, Venerable Chodron brings this 9th century mind-training text to life. It teaches how to eliminate the causes of anxiety, fear, and depression, and to create the causes of joyful liberation for ourselves and others. Watch previous teachings on this text here.

Registration opens April 3. Check the Sravasti Abbey website for registration info and retreat schedule.

All Sravasti Abbey programs are offered freely and your offerings are welcomed. Go here to make an offering.

A text that the residents of Sravasti Abbey read annually on Christmas Day, this is a book that provides a road map to awakening you’ll keep coming back to. The Dalai Lama famously attributed any realization of compassion and bodhicitta he has to this text.

Who it’s for:

Engaging in a Bodhisattva’s Deeds is a text that lends itself to both new and seasoned Dharma practitioners. It covers the entire span of practices necessary to progress on the path to full awakening, in an easy to read format with stark imagery and reasonings to inspire and transform the mind.

About the author:

Shantideva lived in 8th century ancient India, was born into a royal family and set to assume the throne after his father. However, motivated to be of greatest benefit to all sentient beings, Shantideva left the royal life and entered monastic life at the renowned Nalanda Monastery.
