Good Karma
A 3-day course with Venerable Thubten Chodron

May 24, 3 pm to May 27, 1:30 pm Pacific Time

Why do things happen the way they do?
How do we create the causes for a happy life?

Venerable Thubten Chodron continues a series of teachings over Memorial Day weekend based on her book, Good Karma: How to Create the Causes of Happiness and Avoid the Causes of Suffering, a commentary on “The Wheel of Sharp Weapons” by Indian sage Dharmarakshita.

With practical advice and plenty of humor, Venerable Chodron brings this 9th century mind-training text to life. It teaches how to eliminate the causes of anxiety, fear, and depression, and to create the causes of joyful liberation for ourselves and others. Watch previous teachings on this text here.

Check the Sravasti Abbey website for registration info and retreat schedule.

All Sravasti Abbey programs are offered freely and your offerings are welcomed. Go here to make an offering.

Zoom: 'Dharma: Compassion for a Happier Mind'

  • May 29, 2024 - May 29, 2024
  • 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

'Dharma: Compassion for a Happier Mind' with Venerable Thubten Chodron
Wednesday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. – noon Pacific Time |  21:00 – 22:00 p.m. TRT
A Dharma sharing and fundraising event to support earthquake relief in Turkey.  Read Bridge to Turkey's Earthquake Report.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
The question of  "How to be happy?" has occupied our minds  for centuries. Stanford Compassion Ambassador Didem Ergin will moderate a discussion with Venerable Thubten Chödrön. We will pose various questions such as “How do we live a precious life without wasting it? What role does the notion of ‘happiness’ play in living a more meaningful life? Does having a compassionate heart-mind make one happy?”

The conversation will take place online (via Zoom) and will be in English with availability to listen via Turkish channel. The purpose of this event is to (1) help Dharma practitioners understand the connection between happiness and compassion and (2) provide funds to the Turkish earthquake zone, where in 2023 a 7.8-magnitude earthquake took place in Hatay and 10 other provinces in southern Turkey, killing more than 50,000 people.

This event is hosted by Dönüşen Zihin Platform which aims to provide psychoeducation to Turkish women on the subject of (self) compassion.

REGISTRATION:
In order to complete your registration,  we kindly ask you (if possible) to make DIRECT donations to one of the organizations of your choice below. Limited sponsorship is available. Both of the dedicated organizations work for the region.

For the English speaking audience:

  1. We employ a donate as you can afford policy. Please make a donation DIRECTLY to Bridge to Turkey (BTF) fund, which is a non profit organization working in the earthquake region:  https://bridgetoturkiye.org/donation-menu/   This is an honorary system; please keep generosity in mind.
