November 6 – 10 | One teaching daily from 9:00 – 11:00am PST
Host: Gonpa Services
Gompa Services has invited Ven.Thubten Chodron to give a commentary on the Heart Sutra, a text said to be the most recited text in Mahayana Buddhism. Its popularity indicates its profundity, for penetrating the wisdom taught in the Heart Sutra is the pathway to liberation and awakening.
The most concise of the profound Perfection of Wisdom Sutras, the Heart Sutra was spoken for the benefit of those aspiring to become fully enlightened Buddhas for the benefit of all beings. Stating that all phenomena are empty of inherent existence yet exist dependently, it presents the Buddhist view of both the ultimate and conventional natures. Gaining a full understanding of this sutra takes time, dedicated study, and meditation.
You’re invited to join the Abbey in-person for her live teaching, offering one session daily, November 6-10, or longer as needed. Outside of the teaching, guests will participate in the monastic community schedule of practice and offering service. Commuters are welcomed.

The Three Principal Aspects of the Path with Venerable Thubten Chodron
Saturday, November 23, 2024 | 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Sponsored by: Dharma Friendship Foundation
Location: American Evergreen Buddhist Association (see map below) | 13000 NE 84th St, Kirkland, WA
The Three Principal Aspects of the Path, written by the great Tibetan master Je Tsongkhapa, describes the three foundations of the path — the intention to be free (renunciation), the mind of enlightenment (bodhicitta), and the right view of the wisdom realizing emptiness — how to cultivate them, and how to know when you have realized them.
A foundational text of Mahayana Buddhism and considered a prerequisite for Vajrayana (tantric) Buddhism, it offers a succinct outline of the path to full enlightenment. Following on the visit earlier this fall from the Tibetan Buddhist nuns from South India and the creation of an enlightened sand mandala (an aspect of tantric practice), this is a precious opportunity to clear away misconceptions and gain deeper understanding of the complete Buddhist path by a teacher renowned around the world for her skillful explanations bringing Buddhist philosophy down to earth.
