    Working with Anger Workshop
    Five Saturdays: April 1, 15, 22, May 6 & 13
9–10:30 am Pacific Time/ 5–6:30 pm Italy Time
Hosted on Zoom by the Coordinamento Nazionale Pedagogisti ed Educatori
    With simultaneous translation into Italian

Anger plagues all of us on a personal, national, and international level. Yet we see people such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who have faced circumstances far worse than many of us have faced—including exile, persecution, and the loss of many loved ones—but who do not burn with rage or seek revenge. How do they do it?

Working with Anger by Buddhist nun Venerable Thubten Chodron presents a variety of Buddhist methods for subduing and preventing anger not by changing what is happening, but by framing it differently. No matter what our religion, learning to work with our anger is effective for everyone seeking personal happiness as well as world peace.

Join the author herself for this series of five online talks that will be filled with practical tips, personal examples, lots of humor, and the opportunity to engage in question and answer sessions.

In this series of talks Ven. Chodron will explore emptiness, one of the most central teachings in Buddhism, drawing from the newest volume of the Library of Wisdom and Compassion series with the Dalai Lama.

"Searching for the Self leads us to delve deeply into the topic of the ultimate nature of reality, presenting it from a variety of approaches while focusing on identifying our erroneous views and directing us to the actual mode of existence of all persons and phenomena. Engaging in this investigation will challenge our deepest-held beliefs and uproot false ways of viewing ourselves and the world that are so habitual we don’t even notice them."

Teachings on Lama Atisha's "Bodhisattva's Jewel Garland"
    Webcast starting April 7, 2023
Hosted by Gompa Tibetan Monastery Services

Gompa Tibetan Monastery Services is delighted to announce a four-session teaching by the Venerable Thubten Chodron on Lama Atisha’s ‘Bodhisattva’s Jewel Garland’. All four sessions of the teaching will be available to view on Friday, April 7th, 2023. The teachings are given in English and are recorded by Sravasti Abbey, Newport, Washington, USA.

Registration for the webcast of this teaching is now open to Gompa member-supporters at www.gompaservices.com until May 8th, 2023, after which date the teaching will be continuously available to Gompa member-supporters from the Gompa Library (www.gompaservices.com/Library). At the time you register there will also be the opportunity to make an offering in support of the Sravasti Abbey, Newport, Washington, USA.

    The Webcast:

The great master Atisha (982-1054) wrote the Jewel Garland while in Tibet in response to questions from his student Dromtonpa. It is a short text belonging to the mind training, or lojong, tradition. In a beautiful poetic style, Atisha provides instructions on how bodhisattvas practice the path, and concludes his work by affirming that practicing according to this text will help us to reach enlightenment. His advice is just as powerful and helpful today in our Western society as it was in Tibet. Each verse shines by itself, but taken together they become a precious garland of jewels, a complete instruction on how to live a meaningful life with altruism and compassion. Behind every sentence of every verse is a wealth of spiritual insights, “food for thought” for years!

To register for this event, please go to www.gompaservices.com and sign in to your Gompa member-supporter account and select Special Events / See details of all events and webcasts; then select the event (from the list in date order, or by selecting Sravasti Abbey (USA) from the international teaching centre list). Join Venerable Thubten Chodron for live teachings on Shantideva’s classic text Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds. A text that the residents of Sravasti Abbey read annually on Christmas Day, this is a book that provides a road map to awakening you’ll keep coming back to. The Dalai Lama famously attributed any realization of compassion and bodhicitta he has to this text.

    Who it’s for:

Engaging in a Bodhisattva’s Deeds is a text that lends itself to both new and seasoned Dharma practitioners. It covers the entire span of practices necessary to progress on the path to full awakening, in an easy to read format with stark imagery and reasonings to inspire and transform the mind.

    About the author:

Shantideva lived in 8th century ancient India, was born into a royal family and set to assume the throne after his father. However, motivated to be of greatest benefit to all sentient beings, Shantideva left the royal life and entered monastic life at the renowned Nalanda Monastery.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s unexpected passing has deeply affected students from around the world. He touched many students with his unwavering bodhicitta and his tireless service. Many people consider him to have been a Buddha, manifesting on this Earth out of his great compassion to guide others on the path to enlightenment.

In turn, many students have expressed a wide variety of emotions upon his passing, ranging from deep grief to immense gratitude. Others have expressed feelings of ambivalence and confusion.

Many questions have arisen with his passing. If Rinpoche has passed away, is it still possible to receive guidance from him? How might our prayers for his swift return work? Khandro-la said that Rinpoche took on the obstacles for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. What does this mean? How might we view the situation if we wanted to have a stronger connection with Rinpoche but never received the chance or had become slack with our practice? Is there something wrong with us if we never felt a heart connection to Rinpoche like so many other students did?

Venerable Thubten Chodron will help us navigate the different emotions and complex questions that may be arising in relation to his passing, drawing upon her own experiences with Lama Zopa Rinpoche and his students, as well as her deep knowledge of the Dharma.
