May 9, 2015 –
Local authors Dr. Russell Kolts, Professor of Psychology at Eastern Washington University, and Tibetan Buddhist nun Venerable Thubten Chodron, founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey, join forces to present practical tools from their book, Living an Open-Hearted Life: Transformative Methods for Compassionate Living from a Clinical Psychologist and a Buddhist Nun, on Saturday May 9 at the Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Using presentation, discussions, and meditation, they will teach simple tools to calm the mind and open the heart.
Dr. Kolts specializes in Compassion-Focused Therapy and Venerable Chodron, who teaches internationally, is well-known for presenting Buddhist practices in a way that people of all faith traditions can apply. They will offer two sessions, 9:30 AM to noon and 1:30-3:30 PM. A brown bag lunch is recommended. Attendance is by donation and open for either or both sessions. The authors will work from their book, and copies will be available during the event. Inquiries contact (509) 447-5549 or write office [dot] sravasti [at] gmail [dot] com.
