Venerable Thubten Chodron teaches from her book, co-written with His Holiness the Dalai Lama—Buddhism: One Teacher, Many Traditions. The course offers a rare opportunity to delve into Buddhism by studying the commonalities and differences in Buddhist traditions of the world.
This is the second installment of the teaching, picking up at Chapter 6, “The Higher Training in Wisdom: Thirty-Seven Aids to Awakening.” The chapter begins with a detailed exploration of the four establishments of mindfulness in the Pali and Sanskrit traditions. Chapter 7 then examines selflessness and emptiness in the two traditions. It’s a rich offering for those with some background in Buddhist philosophy.
The course includes two teachings daily, structured group discussions, and time for study. Recommended preparation: read the book before you come.
This, like all Abbey programs, is offered on a donation basis. An offering and registration form are requested to reserve your place for the retreat.
Arrive by 4 pm on Monday, November 7. Course ends Wednesday, November 16.
