Sharing the Dharma Day & Kathina Ceremony (Streamed live)
Apr 12, 2020 –
Sharing the Dharma Day & Kathina Ceremony will be offered via Livestream
Sunday, April 12
10 am – 12 pm
The program will include a guided meditation and Dharma talk. On this day, the Abbey joyfully celebrates kathina (pronounced kuh-teen-ah). Established by the Buddha, the ancient ceremony of kathina is a time to rejoice in the virtue created by the sangha during the monastic retreat (varsa) and the ending ceremony (pravarana).
What’s Sharing the Dharma Day All About?
One Sunday a month, Sravasti Abbey opens our doors for Sharing the Dharma Day, an opportunity for newcomers and old friends to explore the Buddha’s teachings and share in community fellowship.
Sharing the Dharma Day topics are drawn from the book, An Open-hearted Life: Transformative Methods for Compassionate Living, by Abbey founder and abbess Venerable Thubten Chodron and Eastern Washington University psychologist Russell Kolts.
People from all faiths and backgrounds can apply the principles explored on Sharing the Dharma Day to enhance their lives. Bring a vegetarian potluck dish (please no meat, eggs, garlic, onions, leeks or radishes) and come with an open mind. All are welcome!
